April Showers Bring May Flowers (we hope)

We had a very chilly, rainy weekend. That would typically lead one to believe we will have lots of flowers bloom in the next week or two. But a lot of our flowers bloomed in March during a warm snap and then promptly died with the next frost. So I guess we’ll see.

I used this past weekend to recover after an exhausting week at work in Virginia Beach. I was very worn out when I got home on Friday evening and slept for nearly ten hours that night. Saturday was rainy and cold and I spent much of the day unpacking, doing laundry, and relaxing around the house. Barry and I watched the Boston Marathon, which was fun and inspiring (as always)! The men’s and women’s races were both so exciting, but especially the women’s finish. Talk about seeing who has more guts!

I did a short 3 mile run with Sven, the treadmill, on Saturday evening. I made it into a progression run and continually bumped the speed up throughout the run. It felt good to push my legs like that, although my calves were screaming. After that Barry surprised me with a date night to Red Lobster. I got the parmesan crusted tilapia. It was good, but I think mine is better 🙂

Yesterday morning I woke up to more rain and 40 degrees. Luckily I had plans to meet up with Kim, so that I would get my butt out the door. We had a nice 6 mile run and enjoyed catching up. The trail was really pretty, because everything was so green. We weren’t sure if the low water bridge would be underwater or not, due to flooding earlier in the week, but luckily it was fine.

We did see a lot of evidence of flooding along the trail, including sections where gravel had been put back down on the trail and other sections where gravel was all washed into the embankment along the trail. The fresh gravel felt very much like running through sand. We also saw a picnic table in a tree! It’s normally on the other side of the creek in a grassy area at least 100 yards from the bank.

In the afternoon Barry and I headed a few miles down the highway to have lunch with his parents and spend the afternoon visiting with them. We ate at a really yummy Italian place and I got Greek pizza. Yum! After lunch we headed back to their house for a bit.

After a few hours of visiting, it was time to hit the road and head on home. Hopefully work this week will be mild and follow a standard schedule, because I’m still recovering from last week!

Are you starting to see lots of leaves and things blooming?
Who else watched Boston? What did you think?

  1. Spent last week in the desert. Sure was nice to be home and see all the green, until I got home and had to cut the grass. But I still like the promise of better things to come as everything begins to bloom.

    LUD.

  2. We are finally starting to see some warmer temps, and my lilies are starting to pop up! Since we’re so far north, things seem to be about a month behind here. But I’m glad for a little sign of good things to come!

  3. The trees have really popped here in the last few days! It always amazes me how much farther along the trees are along the George Washington Parkway than they are here. It’s still so cool here, though. This week is supposed to be cooler than average for this time of year. I’m hoping that we might have a cooler than average summer, but I doubt there’s really any correlation. The weather can be so fickle!

    1. It’s funny how different areas bloom so much sooner. I like when everything starts to bloom, but the humidity hasn’t crept in yet. If only it would stay like this throughout summer!

  4. I adore the Boston Marathon for some reason. I snuck on a few times throughout the day and watched YouTube recaps at night!

    1. Boston is a big deal, and it’s so exciting. Especially so since it takes place on a Monday. Glad you were able to sneak a few peeks at the race during the day 🙂 You should have just created some kind of English assignment for the kiddo’s and had them watch the race and write some kind of reflection paper!
