Weekly Workout Roundup – Mar. 3 – 9

This was a pretty big week for me. It brought the end of the 30 Day Shred program, and my first trail race. The trail race ended up being incredibly challenging… but more on that later.

Monday- 30 Day Shred level 3 workout. Day 27.

Tuesday- AM: 30 Day Shred, level 3 workout. Day 28.

PM: 3 mile run on the treadmill. I had planned on running 4 miles, but my left shin started hurting a bit halfway through mile 2. So I stopped at mile 3 instead. Lots of stretching and icing afterward.

Wednesday- AM: 30 Day Shred, level 3 day 29.

PM: 4 mile run with Barry on the roads around our house. It was warm enough to wear shorts and I conquered ‘Tabernacle Hill’ (just a hill that’s big enough to garner its own name). Barry and I also made friends with a new Mr. Boy. Mr. Boy was a dog that used to run with us all of the time last spring. Then one day he was gone and we haven’t ever seen him again. During this run, we met a new, friendly loose dog with a collar but no name tag. She ran with us for almost all of the run.  Of course I left my camera at home….

Thursday- AM: Level 3 workout for the 30 Day Shred. Day 30, baby!! Done and done**.

PM: 3 mile run with Sven. My left shin had been a bit twingy in the morning, so I decided to stick to the treadmill in case I needed to stop mid-run. Luckily my shin felt fine and I got in my 3 miles as planned.

**This was my final day of the 30 Day Shred program. When I started the program, I said I was going to watch what I was eating, essentially putting the DVD’s cover statement “Lose up to 20 pounds in 30 days!” to the test. I don’t know what diet they recommend, and I’m sure that statement only applies if you’re actually following the recommended diet by the Jillian Michaels folks. I’m happy to report that I lost 8 pounds over the past 30 days. I have since lost another two pounds, so I’m up to 10 pounds total lost since mid-February.

Friday- Rest day! My first complete rest day in 30 days.

Saturday- Green Legs & Hamstrings Trail Half Marathon. What a doozy for my first trail race! There was about 3 inches of snow on the trails, along with a mixture of slush and at times ankle-deep mud. For now all I’m going to tell you is that I finished. Also, Barry and I underestimated the glare of the sun reflecting off of the snow. He got burned and I got a tan. Sunscreen would have been a good idea. You will have to wait until tomorrow morning for the rest of the details!

Sunday- Rest day. I had debated on doing some light cross training, but I was really sore from the race. Almost as sore as I was after the full marathon last November. I did do some stuff during the day, though. In addition to my usual Sunday cleaning, I also cleaned the camper in preparation for our camping trip next weekend for the full and half marathon in Asheville.

Total Miles: 23 miles

  1. Can’t wait to hear about the race! I wear sunscreen all the time, but that is because the sun is much more intense here. Yikes! And congrats on losing ten pounds!

    1. You are a lot closer to the sun than we are. I’m not as good about wearing sunscreen as I should be, because I don’t burn easily. That doesn’t mean I don’t still need it, though.

  2. I typed a really big long comment and now I don’t see it…sorry if this is a double!!Anyhow I said that you are doing so GREAT w/ your workouts and congrats on the weight loss! Also, I love that you made friends w a dog. We name big hills too! We have “Budweiser Hill” & “Big Mama”, to name a couple!
