Would You Rather…

Once again, Cori over at Olive to Run has created another installment in her “Would You Rather” running style survey. We are up to number seven! I previously joined in on survey #3 and survey #4. I think these surveys are a lot of fun, so without further ado…

#1. Would you rather run in a thunderstorm or a snowstorm?

I’ll take a snowstorm over a thunderstorm, only because where there’s thunder there’s lightning and I don’t want to be outside running with lightning.

#2. Would you rather breathe through your nose or breathe through your mouth?

I usually prefer to breathe through my nose, but if my nose is stuffy then I am forced to breathe through my mouth. When I’m running hard during a race or a track workout I often breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth to try and get a deeper breath.

#3. Would you rather do 100 squats or 100 crunches? [Now take a break and go do them. ;)]

Definitely 100 crunches! My core can always use more work. Hello No More Trouble Zones!

#4. Would you rather have a baked good for dessert or an extra serving of your favorite entree?

I’d rather have an extra serving of my favorite entree. I do like sweets, but I’m not that big a fan of “baked goods.”

#5. Would you rather run on a treadmill for an hour or run around the same street block for an hour?

Before I got Sven (my treadmill) my answer would have been run around the same street block for an hour. I mean, I already did that last spring, only it was around the same campground for ten miles. But now that I have bonded with Sven, my answer is treadmill.

My first run with Sven

#6. Would you rather have a headache during a run or a side stitch?

I hate having a headache, and occasionally get migraines, but I’ll take a headache over a side stitch. With a headache all I have to do is tolerate the pounding, but a side stitch makes me feel like I can’t breathe.

#7. Would you rather have a rest day on a work day or a day off?

I like having a rest day on a work day, because sometimes it’s nice to come home from work and just have the whole evening free.

Work gets in the way of running, anyway

#8. Would you rather be a race director or a race volunteer?

I think I’d rather be a race volunteer, unless I could have a full time job as a race director. I know how much work goes into being in charge of a race, and I would much rather give back to the sport by volunteering my time.

#9. Would you rather spend your money on running gadgets [HRM, GPS watch, Headphones] or running shoes?

This is a tough one! I’m very torn, but I think I’ll go with…. running shoes. I feel content with the gadgets I have and hope that they have long, happy lives, but shoes wear out. Plus it’s more fun to get new shoes in new colors!

#10. Would you rather run in a relay or do the run portion of a distance triathlon?

Another tough one, because I want to do both. I’ve never done a triathlon or a relay. I’ve actually talked about doing a triathlon with my dad and Barry, with me swimming, Dad biking, and Barry running. But it hasn’t come to fruition, yet. Who’s up for a blogger relay??

Feel free to answer any or all of the questions!

  1. 1. Doesn’t matter. If the weather is bad, I’m tread-milling it.2. However I can get the breath I need3. Is that Cap’n Crunch? I like the Peanut Butter kind.4. Extra Entree. Not a desert person.5. See #1. Always outside if possible6. Neither. Advil and a day of rest.7. Day off. Work is mentally draining and I need to balance with some physical exertion.8. I’m a joiner. If it has to be done, I will do it so it is done correctly.9. Whatever it takes. Everything wears out but I only have one pair of shoes at a time. Guy thing.10. Bike.LUD.

  2. Count me in for a blogger relay! I did an amazing relay race in Nova Scotia several years ago. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d love to do another like it. I think there’s a Blue Ridge relay in our neck of the woods. We should check it out, and get Debbie and Cori to take a leg!

    1. The Blue Ridge Relay is September 5-6. I need for the Hokies to release our football schedule so I can plan my races! I would love to do it with you guys!!! We could all girls or couples since our hubbies all run, too (although I can’t remember if Cori’s husband runs that much).

    2. The Blue Ridge Relay actually had a booth and the expo in Charlotte. The lady made it sound like the relay was incredibly challenging and that there was a high possibility of getting lost in the mountains in the dark. Eeek. I’m totally up for a relay, as long as it works with my work schedule!

  3. Love your answers and love your little poem above the shoes in #9. I’m all over a blogger relay! Blue Ridge Relay is September 5-6, and Ragnar DC is the following weekend. Would you be interested in coming up for that one if the Cruisers put a team together?

    1. Thanks πŸ™‚ I wrote that last year when we had that huge snowstorm towards the end of March. See my comment above about the Blue Ridge Relay. That one kind of scares me. I am definitely interested in a relay! Keep me in the loop.

  4. These were so much fun to read! I’m with you on the lightning…no way!! A snowstorm is really not that bad at all to run in and certainly not as life-threatening! Still can’t believe you ran that far around the campground. That cracks me up every time I hear it! LOL

    1. A snowstorm can be a lot of fun to run in, but I definitely prefer to run on a bike trail. Running along the roads (especially ours that have blind curves and no shoulder) is too dangerous when it’s slick outside!
