Visiting friends!

This morning I met up with my running buddy, Kim, for a long run on the Dora and New River Trails. We did 6 miles and I really struggled today. I think a big part of that was that I did speedwork last night, and I’ve never done speedwork the night before a long run. I guess it’s good to learn to run on tired legs before my first full marathon this November. Fortunately, but unfortunately, Kim was also having a rough day. Fortunately because that means I wasn’t slowing us down. Unfortunately because it’s no fun that she was also having a tough time today. Either way we got it done.

My car, whom I call “Hey Car”, claimed it was 60 degrees at the start of our run. It felt much warmer than this, most likely because of the humidity. At the end of our run it had already warmed up to 79 degrees! Hot hot hot.

Shortly after I got cleaned up from my long run and had some breakfast, I headed up to Blacksburg to visit my best friend, Laura, who was in town visiting for the weekend. It was great to see her!

Funny story about the matching sunglasses: I bought mine yesterday on a whim while I was out shopping. She bought hers 5 days ago. Neither of us knew the other one had a pair until we saw each other today. That’s the norm for us. I like them because I feel like a state trooper while wearing them πŸ™‚

Our friend Jackie was also down visiting for the weekend. We decided she needed to get a pair of aviator sunglasses, too, so we hit up Wal-Mart after having lunch at Macado’s. Here is our “Top Gun” pose:

Say hello to Goose, Maverick, and Ice Man! Once the picture-taking shenanigans were over we hung out for a bit, watched the movie “No Strings Attached” (which by the way is a very funny and cute movie in my opinion), and then headed downtown for some drinks.

We hung out at a bar called Hokie House with a bunch of other friends for a few hours and then I hit the road for home, about 20 minutes past my bedtime. It was a great day with old friends, though, and I’m so glad I got to visit with them all day!

If you ran or worked out today, how did it go?

Have you ever seen the movie “No Strings Attached”?

Do you keep in touch with college friends? How often do you get to see “old” friends?

  1. I had an 8-mile run today that felt great.I haven’t seen that movie… maybe this summer. My best friend from HS and the maid of honor in my wedding recently flew out to visit. That’s rare… but it was nice!

    1. I’m so glad you had a great run πŸ™‚ We live for those, don’t we? That was great that your best friend was able to visit recently!

  2. Bill just got some aviator sunglasses and I tell him that he looks like the motorcycle cop from Chips! I’m glad you had fun at the Hokie House. That place was around when we were at VT! I just told Julie that my Hokie Bucket List includes getting my picture taken in front of the maroon and orange neon flag at TOTS! I’ll have to do it this fall when I’m down for a game or the race.We see our college friends at all of the home games because we tailgate together. You are invited to stop by and join us next fall!

    1. Maybe we are all at the front of a new trend! πŸ™‚ That would be a first for me, haha. I bet it will be no problem to get your picture in front of the flag at TOTS! I will definitely have to swing by sometime this fall during a game!

  3. Speed work trashes my legs, too. I’ve learned the same lesson about speed before a long run! I can handle them in the reverse order no problem, though.Love the pics! Your sunglasses are great.

    1. Hmmm I’m not sure how speedwork would go for me the day after a long run. I’m so used to taking a rest day the day after that it would be hard to break out of that mentality.

  4. College friends and I keep up on Facebook mostly, with some emails here and there. Thankfully most of them have stayed on the East Coast, so they can travel to visit each other, and it’s easy to pop through and see everyone when we’re in town. Today = Saturday, it looks like (sooo behind on blogs, once again!). KMN and I went for a spin class on Saturday afternoon. Super full class, but a good time nonetheless. Today…is still young. Heading for the gym in a bit for Body Pump and some yoga.

    1. Hope you had a good weekend! There is a new gym opening about 20 minutes from our house and other locations have Body Pump classes so I’m hoping this one will so I can try it out.
