Another Wednesday means another Wednesday Word linkup with Debbie! Each week Debbie gives us all a word prompt to write about. This week’s word is brave and it’s perfect timing with my first ultramarathon happening this Saturday. Naturally, that’s what I’m going to talk about because I can’t really think about anything else.
Here are some of the mantras I have come up with for myself on race day. I am actually planning to write these down and carry them in my pack to refer to as needed…
You dreamt it, now do it.
Don’t give up what you want most for what you want right now.
That voice in your head that says you can’t do this is a liar.
One step closer.
I am lucky, I get to experience this.
When you feel like giving up, remember why you started.
Be brave.
Sometimes I feel kind of silly thinking about these. When I’m sitting here well rested and comfortable, it’s hard to imagine needing these mantras. But I know that the mind is a powerful thing and I’ve definitely defeated myself mentally in the past. When the going gets tough I hope that these phrases will help me stay strong and keep going.
How do you stay strong when the going gets tough?
Bravery: something you’re born with or something that can be learned?
P.S. This week marks one year of the Wednesday Word link up. I’ve had fun linking up each week and seeing other’s take on the word prompt. Thank you, Debbie, for hosting and congratulations on a fun and successful link up!
I don’t believe bravery is something you are born with nor learn. It just happens.
This weekend is not about bravery. That happened when you signed up for this event. Your preparation both physically and mentally are complete. Just make it happen.
See you Friday.
LUD.
I love my mantras, and yes, even though others may think them corny, I get strength from them!
As I was trying to get through Hains Point this weekend and fighting off thoughts of “I’m tired,” I told myself I could be tired later. Not very inspiring but I needed to get over that. Then I set my sights on a goal to Finish Strong.
I love that first mantra! I need to come up with better ones when I’m tired in a race because it’s hard to clearly when I’m in that moment. When things get tough, I put nose to grindstone and forge through.
hard to *think* clearly is what I meant to say above. 🙂 lol
You got this!!! My words were “You are stronger” and “It gets better”…both were true for me, and I’m sure they will be for you as well 🙂
Can’t wait to hear all about it!!!!
Good luck with the ultra! Those are great mantras.
I can’t wait to hear about your very brave ultramarathon experience. I love all of your mantras. They are not silly! My craziest one was “At least you’re not pool running.” IT HELPED. Good luck this weekend.
Good luck Meagan! You def will rock it! I am rooting for you!
Love it ! Use your mantras, nothing wrong with it! Good luck, this is super exciting!
Aw, yes, these must be the mantras you spoke of on Saturday. Did you need to pull them out during your last seven miles, or were you good?
Thanks for being a regular part of our link up this past year! I’ve loved reading your take on our Wednesday Words.
