Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Monday- Cross training: Jillian Michael’s Burn Fat, Boost Metabolism DVD workout. I was still pretty sore from the trail half, and there were a few moves I had to modify because they made my quads cramp. But it felt good to get my blood flowing and get my sweat on. I spent a long time stretching afterwards and that felt wonderful!
Tuesday- 5 mile run on the roads around our house. It was 75 degrees outside – unseasonably warm for March! It was hot, but I really enjoyed running in shorts and a t-shirt in the summer-like weather.
This was my first run since the trail half marathon. I felt pretty strong and I think a big part of it was the fact that I actually had traction while going up the hills.
Wednesday- A little over 4 miles on the treadmill. I would have run outside, but the 20-30 mph winds with 50 mph gusts kept me inside.
Usually I have a really hard time sleeping when it’s so windy outside. But, thanks to my illicit use of nighttime cold medicine, the wind never woke me up.
I normally wouldn’t condone that kind of behavior in myself, but I needed some sleep. And hey, it worked! Well that and a pillow over my head.
Thursday- Since I had plans to meet up with Kim for a run on Friday, I made Thursday a cross training day. I did the same workout as Monday (Burn Fat Boost Metabolism workout DVD), and my muscles felt a lot better than they did on Monday. Pretty much all of the soreness from the trail half was gone by this point.
Friday- 3 mile run with Kim at the Dora Trail in town. It was a gorgeous day outside, mid-50’s with a slight breeze. As always, the miles flew by with Kim and we spent the whole time catching up.
Sunday- 13.1 miles at the Asheville Half Marathon at the Biltmore Estate. It was in the low 40’s and rained the entire race. It wasn’t too bad to run in, but I was pretty cold once I finished. I crossed the finish line in 2:16:33 and I’m happy that I never stopped running the entire race. I also had my first trip ever to the medical tent, but more on that tomorrow!

Sounds like a good taper week complete with some good workouts! You had to go to the medical tent? Hope all is well, and I guess I’ll have to wait and read about it tomorrow.

Hope you’re OK! Medical tents are scary, yet wonderful places, depending on the situation. I always sleep with a pillow over my head since I am such a light sleeper. I sometimes take melatonine which is a natural hormone, but still a hormone, and feels slightly less bad for my body than other sleep-inducing meds. I sleep so good when I take it though!
Yes, I’m fine 🙂 I felt ridiculous going in there in the first place (see today’s race report). Barry has taken melatonin before and it knocked him out for the whole night. Definitely works!
