Ten miles on a Thursday evening? Why not.

It has been a strange week for running. With just two days of running this week, I have exceeded last week’s mileage by 6 miles. I guess it’ll be a light weekend in terms of running.

On Monday, I took advantage of the extra day off of work and went for an 8 mile run in the morning on the New River Trail.

I mostly had the trail to myself, as it was pretty cold outside. At one point I saw 5 or 6 wild turkeys. I tried to get a picture, but they were too quick and ran off into the woods. I also missed getting a picture of something else really neat- sled dogs pulling their owners on an old school scooter!

Imagine that, but with two Huskies tethered to it running down the trail. I wish I had gotten a picture, because it was something to see! I did get a picture of their Husky transport set up.

Seeing those dogs made me think of this picture while I was running:

On Wednesday night, Barry and I had spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. I joked with him that I felt like I should get up and run 10 miles the next morning, since we were carbo-loading. Barry said he didn’t see any reason I shouldn’t. That idea kind of stuck in my head.

Although I did not get up and run 10 miles before work, I did come home and run 10 miles with Sven after work. I don’t think it got above 0 all day with the windchill, so there was no way I was going to run outside. In addition to putting on a good movie, I came up with another way to make the miles fly by while on the treadmill:

A towel over the screen! I usually look at the screen a lot while I run, but covering it up let me get completely absorbed in the movie and the time just flew by. And the main reason I was okay with the idea of running 10 miles in the evening after work? There was no training plan telling me I had to.

Name that movie…. ready, go!

Has it been a normal or strange week for you as far as workouts are concerned?

Who else has been having more winter/frigid weather this week?
I thought we were past that whole ‘Polar Vortex’ thing…

  1. The Blind Side! Love it!!Well I decided to run on Monday when it was 50 and sunny before the snow came which now I’m so glad I did! I woke up early yesterday to run but it felt good to have it out of the way! I’m SO over this freezing cold temperatures… I don’t live in Alaska for a reason!Wow awesome job on your 10 miles!!!

    1. Such a good movie ๐Ÿ™‚ I am so over the cold temperatures, too. Unfortunately, it looks like we have another bitter cold week in store. Boo.

  2. Wow-Look at you go, girl! Ten miles on a treadmill is impressive. I use a towel all the time on the treadmill. A movie in the privacy of your basement definitely helps those miles fly by! Now what half marathon are you going to do this weekend? Just saying I think you are ready for one!

    1. Thanks! I have surprised myself lately with the amount of time I’m willing to spend on the treadmill. It definitely helps that it’s in my own basement and not in a gym. No half this weekend! But I have a 10 mile race in 3 weeks. I guess I’m ready, huh? ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Of course it is the Blind Side. Pre-Super Bowl watching required. Also have to slip in North Dallas Forty, Any Given Sunday, Rudy, Remember the Titans, Varsity Blues, Invincible, Brian’s Song (sniff sniff), We Are Marshall, The Replacements, etc, and the original Longest Yard. No Jerry McGuire.Spent last week in Tucson with 75 degree weather. This week I have barely been outside with the snow, ice and wind chill in the DMV. But I did read an article about how you lose weight in the cold weather and should keep your thermostat at 62. Burn those calories while shivering!LUD.

    1. So many good football movies! I don’t have time for them all before the Super Bowl. You burn your calories how you want. I’ll stick to running and keep the woodstove going ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. The Blind Side… I loved that movie! Any miles on the treadmill is impressive; ten miles is badass! The extremely cold weather has kept me inside since Tuesday, but I just got a new spin bike so I’ve been cross-training like crazy!

    1. Such a good movie! We went and saw it when it first came out on theaters (after watching a VT football game on TV) and I’m so glad I saw it in the theaters. The very beginning with Theismann always makes me cringe!Congrats on your new spin bike!

  5. We are having the frigid weather! I’m not loving it. I ran 9 miles on the treadmill this morning. It was the longest treadmill run I’ve done in quite a while. I’m impressed with your 10! And on a Thursday night, too. Crazy! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Wow for 10 miles on the treadmill!! That’s awesome. I have to cover the screen when I need to run long too or else I just keep staring at it.
