Goodbye to an old friend

Today was a sad day in our house. We had to make the heart-breaking decision to have our Toby dog, Barry’s childhood dog, put to sleep. Toby lived to be 17 years, 2 1/2 months old, which is a long life for a dog. Nevertheless, it was still a tough decision. Loving a dog means making the impossible decision to let it go when it’s quality of life is no longer there. Toby had gotten to this point. We will shed tears that he is gone, but we will also celebrate the long life he had.

We drove down to Barry’s parent’s house afterward to lay him to rest alongside other dogs that they have had. Toby was lucky to have a human like Barry who gave him a great life. He left this world knowing how much he was loved and cherished.

  1. I’m sorry 😦 Losing a dog friend is perhaps one of the most difficult things. Hang in there and remember the good times!

  2. Awww, Meagan, I am so sorry to hear about Toby. It sounds like he had a wonderful life, and he and Barry enjoyed many years together!

  3. Meagan… I wish I could give you a hug. I’m so sorry for your loss and for Barry’s as well. He must have loved you all so much to have stuck around for 17+ years. That’s just amazing. I’m sure you’ll remember (and so will Barry) all of the ways he blessed your life. RIP, Toby!

  4. This is so heartbreaking! He seems like he was such a wonderful dog and had such a full life! My childhood cat died about a month ago and it was really sad. I’d only lost one pet (my first dog) before him. He was the same, though, he lived a LOOONGGG life (also like 19 years), so I think that always helps me feel a little less sad. Give Barry our best! That must be so hard for him!

    1. Aw, Logan I’m so sorry about your cat! It’s so hard to lose them, because you’re incredibly attached after having them for so long, but on the flipside you’re happy to have had such a long time with them.

What's on your mind?
