Guilty pleasures

This evening I decided to play it safe and run with Sven. I ran 8 miles, with the middle 4 at marathon pace. My middle 4 miles came in at 10:08, 10:09, 10:09, and 10:10. Bam, nailed it! Except all I had to do was set the treadmill speed and mindlessly run. Here are my feet on the treadmill. Hash tag proof and all that jazz. Except I’m not on Twitter. I am on Instagram, where hash tags are also used (or are they just called tags?), but chose not to give more than one branch of social media a picture of my feet this evening.

I look like I’m ten feet tall!

It was a run full of guilty pleasures. I started out listening to my iPod for the first 2.5 miles. Sven has an auxiliary plug, so I was able to plug my iPod right into the treadmill and listen to my music through the speakers. It sounded pretty good. I have a music confession. Right now I cannot get over the new Miley Cyrus song ‘Wrecking Ball’. I really like the chorus and I like running to it. Don’t get me wrong, I think the music video is distasteful. But the song… my new guilty pleasure.

And from there I moved on to my TV guilty pleasure: Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition. Really, it’s just the show that gets me through until Dance Moms comes back on. But secretly I like it almost as much as Dance Moms.

The best part about guilty pleasures? They make the miles fly by while I run on the treadmill. I pinkie promise I never got the least bit bored during the entire 8 miles. Plus I’m killing two birds with one stone. I’m getting my miles in and cleaning out our DVR.

What are your music and TV guilty pleasures?

How do you fight boredom on the treadmill?

  1. I like to do fast speedwork on treadmill so I am always switching up the pace. That helps me a lot. I sometimes watch TV, but usually get distracted by how much time/miles I have left. Meh. I am on the hunt for some good songs to download for my marathon. I am not really a Miley fan but I might have to look into it.

  2. TV and the treadmill? I like the travel channel. I just pretend I’m walking through whatever country they are featuring.I have no guilty pleasures with music. I admit to listening to everything, except gangster rap. I just don’t understand glorifying drug use, crime and gender or ethnic oppression. I will add that I tend to sing along. And I am constantly looking around to make sure no one is close enough to hear.LUD.

    1. I have no shame when I sing along to music in my car. No one can see you when you’re driving, right?? Isn’t that why people pick their noses while they’re in the car.

  3. I’ve definitely taken to bringing the iPad to the gym and watching some kind of TV show while at the gym. But I have to watch through Amazon Prime, which limits my options (because I’m too cheap to pay for anything other than an Amazon Prime subscription). Recently, I’ve watched through all available seasons of The Good Wife and The Closer. And I just finished watching an old British crime series called Prime Suspects, which was fascinating – both from a cultural (US vs. UK) and time period (early ’90s versus present day) perspective.

    1. I have never watched any of those shows. I may have to look into them, though. It seems like any show that holds your attention will make the miles fly by.

    2. I’m not sure about that…I’m a sucker for any reasonably engaging crime series, particularly those with a strong female lead, apparently. [Although I’m having trouble getting into Bones.] And The Good Wife isn’t a crime drama, it just…really sucked me in!

    1. I could totally run on the treadmill next to you and watch those shows with you! My best friend and I love Gilmore Girls and freshman year of college we got a box set of seasons 1-5. We watched them over and over and I’m still not sick of that show.
