Weekly Workout Roundup – Jan. 13 – 19

I spent this entire week fighting some kind of virus. I looked up flu symptoms on the CDC website and my symptoms were very similar. I had the chills, sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, body aches, headache, and fatigue. But I’m not convinced I actually had the flu, because from what I’ve heard it totally knocks you off your feet. I think it must have been some kind of “fake flu” that mirrors flu symptoms. Either way, I am feeling better now and am hoping to get back into a regular routine. January is starting off a lot slower than I planned, but at least I’m still able to run.

Monday- Rest. I was feeling exhausted and took a sick day from work.

Tuesday- 3 mile run on the roads around our house in the evening after work. I really struggled on this run and kept thinking it was all in my head, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t.

Wednesday- Rest. Barely made it through the workday.

Thursday- Rest.

Friday- I had the day off of work thanks to Lee-Jackson Day, a state holiday in Virginia. I slept in, took it easy in the morning and then did a very slow 2 mile run at Bisset Park in the afternoon.

Saturday- After a full week of feeling exhausted and sick, I was finally feeling better so Barry and I headed up to Pandapas Pond for a trail run. I got in a little over 5 miles on the trails. I don’t think I was totally back to my normal self, though, because I felt like I ran out of energy very quickly.

As soon as we got home, I changed into a dry set of running clothes and headed out to meet Kim at the Dora trail. This was her first run back since having her baby, and we ran two miles together.

After all of that, I was ready for bed by 6:30 PM, but I managed to stay up until 9. Then I slept for 12 hours.

Sunday- Rest. I considered cross training, but decided after sleeping so much the night before I better take it easy and not exhaust myself. I did spend some time cleaning and dusting the house, though. So I got my blood flowing a bit.

Total Miles: 12 miles

  1. Sorry you were sick! It’s possible you had the flu but your immune system was able to deal with it so it was mildish…that happened to me once. Still lasted a good week/10 days though. Your trail run looks so pretty! Glad you were still about to get out a bit even though you were sick!

    1. I may have had a mild case of it, but I feel like it’s so hard to tell because so many viruses can have similar symptoms. The trail run was pretty, but so tough!

  2. Wow-did you have a 4 day weekend since you had Friday off? I sure could have used today off, let alone Friday, too! Sounds like a great weekend, despite fighting off the flu or flu symptoms. I bet your extra day off felt good after that!

  3. oh no, i hope you start feeling better!! ugh, i got some weird throat thing a few weeks back and it’s not fun, let’s be honest the REAL reason i hate getting sick is becuz it messes with my runs!! but i’m glad u were able to listen to your body and take some extra rest. boooo for work, just in general…but especially when it’s sucking your strength with your sick…lol. glad u and your friend were able to get some running in on that purdy trail!! hope ur week’s going well so far!
