Runners Tell All: Race Bucket List

I’m taking a break from Ragnar recaps because it’s Runners Tell All link-upย time! This month’s topic is your race bucket list. We’re talking about what races you would do if time and money weren’t an issue. This is a fun one ๐Ÿ™‚ Some of the races on my wish list are actual possibilities in the future, while others are more far reaching or downright unrealistic. Here’s my list! (you can click on each picture for the source)

The Realistic Ones

1. All the races in the Roanoke Non-Ultra Trail Series, put on by Mountain Junkies LLC. I did a few of them earlier this year and had a blast.

2. New River Half Marathon in Todd, NC

3. Tobacco Road Half Marathon in Cary, NC

4. Bristol Half & Half Marathon in Bristol VA/TN

5. Rock N Roll Half Marathon in St. Louis, MO

6. Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon in Loudon County, VA

7. Instant Classic Trail Marathon in Richmond, VA

8. The Bluegrass Half Marathon in Johnson City, TN

9. Eastern Divide 50K in Pembroke, VA

The Less Realistic Ones

1. Disney World Marathon weekend races in Florida

2. Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Fransisco, CA

3. Disney’s Princess Half Marathon in Florida

4. New York City Marathon

5. A Christmas Story Run in Cleveland, OH

6. Berlin Marathon in Germany

7. Big Sur Marathon

7. Honolulu Marathon in Hawaii

9. JFK 50 Miler in Maryland

10. Hellgate 100K in Fincastle, VA

11. Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run in California (I told you this was not realistic.)

Now, I think we better end this on a nice even 11 (technically it’s an even 20 if you count the ones on my realistic list) because I could go on and on.

What’s on your race wish list?

P.S. My regularly scheduled training weekly recap is coming at you tomorrow.

  1. I totally want to do the Christmas Story run as well! That is my all time favorite Christmas movie. Sounds like so much fun!

P.S. I’m registered for the RnR St. Louis this year – you should do it!

    1. That is my all time favorite Christmas movie, too! You probably already guessed that, though. My dad and I can practically quote the entire movie ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope you have a great time at RnR STL!! It looks like a great race and I love that city.

    1. Yes, they’ve been on my radar ๐Ÿ™‚ I’d say at least a 50K is coming down the pipe at some point… now a 50 miler I’m not so sure.

Instant Classic made the list after you ran it earlier this year. It looked like a great race!

  2. Great list, and I can’t believe that I totally forgot the linkup this month! I was really looking forward to it, so I’m going to write something up tonight and hope the linkup is still open.

From your list, I’ve done the Virginia Wind Country Half, Big Sur Marathon, and JFK 50-Mile Ultra. All are great races!

  3. I’ve been looking at the New River Marathon for a couple of years. I also definitely want to do an Ultra. Didn’t know you were thinking about that, too!

    1. New River looks like a really pretty race. For us, it’s only 2 hours away (the same time it takes us to drive to Lynchburg, and half the time it takes us to drive to Richmond!). So we could easily do that race without any overnight travel.

  4. Great list! I would like to do Big Sur and NYC. I’m surprised you didn’t list Boston. I won’t “retire” until I make it there

  5. Your list is great! I think some of the ‘non-realistic’ races are completely doable! I think with a little bit of planning and budgeting they can be done. Thanks for sharing your fun list with us on RTA!

  6. I love that you have two lists also! Big Sur would be fantastic to run. And I’ve heard about that Virginia wine country race… doesn’t that sound lovely? Hopefully you’ll get to cross some of these off soon! Glad you linked up with us, Meagan!

    1. Thanks for hosting! The VA Wine Country looks like a really pretty race. The only catch is that it’s usually hot, so wine will probably be the last thing I’ll want at the finish line ๐Ÿ™‚

What's on your mind?
